COVID-19 and Immunity Testing

Our Laboratory believes that testing for the immunity level is crucial during the COVID-19 outbreak. Immunological/ serological tests can function as a  screening tool to measure the level of Antibodies in the circulation.  

In addition, testing for the base level of immunity in our body can be monitored through the measurement of the Inflammatory Biomarkers (the Cytokines). 

The Serological Test will be used as a great tool: 

1. To measure the immune response following COVID-19 Infection.
2. To measure the body level of Immunity against COVID-19 for treatment follow-up.

Specialized tests can uncover disturbances in our body's immunity level causing a state of imbalance and could lead to the development of different disease states including the COVID-19 Infection. This novel disease is tightly linked to what is known as "Cytokine storm".  The level of inflammation in our body is monitored closely through those immunological tests. 

Inflammatory mediators are a group of proteins, known as cytokines, that work together in harmony in a balanced  physiological state known by the term of Homeostasis. The cytokine tests can act as an early predictor for lung inflammation development, as markers to track and monitor a respiratory disorder progression, and drug efficacy during  disease management and course of treatment. 

At CMID INC. Laboratory we test the function of two categories of cytokines. Pro-inflammatory cytokines are a group of proteins such as (IL)-1b, IL-1a, IL-6, IL-8 (CXCL8), IL-17, macrophage inflammatory proteins (MIP-1 (CCL3), MIP-1(CCL4)), and TNF-a). Anti-inflammatory cytokines include IL-4,IL-10, and transforming growth factor (TGF)-b. A toxic and prolonged inflammatory response may result in lung injury and poor outcomes, even in those receiving advanced medical care to recover from Pneumonia and other respiratory disorders.
